The OSG 1410105200 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in through-hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this tool displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it handles M10x1.50 metric coarse threads and is suited for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, die steel, and hardened steel workpieces. The plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads makes it practical for through-hole threading operations. Overall length is 2.9134 inches (74.60 mm) with a tapping depth of 1.2520 inches (31.80 mm).
This tap belongs to the OSG HY-PRO NRT series, which is engineered for cold-form tapping in production and job-shop environments. It is well suited for machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping heads where through-hole threads in metallic workpieces are required. The right-hand thread direction and D6 thread limit with a 4H class of fit align with standard metric tolerance requirements for general mechanical assemblies.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M10x1.50 metric coarse threads. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous material groups per ISO classification.
Thread forming taps require higher torque than cutting taps of the same size, so verify that the tapping machine or torque-controlled driver is set appropriately for the workpiece material. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil compatible with the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap enters the hole axially to avoid thread distortion. Follow shop safety practices and machine guarding requirements when operating tapping equipment.
