The OSG 1410104700 is a thread forming tap from the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this M8x1.25 metric coarse tap features a plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads for reliable thread starts in through-hole applications. The overall length is 2.7165 inches (69.10 mm) with a thread length of 0.5906 inches (15.00 mm). It carries a 6H class of fit and D9 thread limit, meeting standard tolerance requirements for metric fastener threads. This tap is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance professionals working with precision threaded holes.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The cobalt construction and HY-PRO NRT series design make it applicable across alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces. It is a strong fit for production machining environments, job shops, and MRO applications where consistent M8x1.25 internal threads are required in tough materials.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring M8x1.25 metric coarse internal threads.
This tap is installed by machinists using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine tool equipped for rigid tapping. Before tapping, ensure the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for M8x1.25 thread forming operations, as forming taps require a larger pilot than cutting taps. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil compatible with the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Do not reverse the tap aggressively in interrupted cuts, as cobalt tooling can be brittle under sudden lateral stress.
