The OSG 1410104501 is a thread forming tap designed for M8x1.25 metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating. The modified bottoming chamfer — with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads — allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 2.7165 inches (69.10 mm), with a thread length of 0.5906 inches (15.00 mm) and a maximum tapping depth of 1.1260 inches (28.60 mm). Machinists and toolroom professionals use this tap in production and maintenance environments where precise internal threads are required.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in a range of workpiece materials, including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its thread forming — rather than cutting — action displaces material rather than producing chips, making it well suited for automated and CNC tapping operations where chip evacuation in a blind hole is a concern. The right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit with D9 thread limit make it compatible with standard metric fastener assemblies across general manufacturing and industrial maintenance applications.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — consult a metric forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before use, as the required hole size differs from a standard cut tap drill size. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece and use a calibrated torque-controlled tapping head or tap handle to avoid overloading the tap, particularly near the bottom of a blind hole. Do not reverse the tap under load without relieving torque first.
