The OSG 1410104305 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for M8x1.25 metric coarse threading applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, this tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction during tapping. It forms threads by displacing material rather than cutting, eliminating chips and producing stronger thread forms. With an overall length of 2.7165 inches (69.10 mm) and a thread length of 0.5906 inches (15.00 mm), it is suited for tight-tolerance work requiring a 6H class of fit with a D9 thread limit. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and MRO environments.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading operations where chip evacuation is a concern and thread strength is critical. The bottoming chamfer, with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is rated for use in a broad range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, making it a versatile option for general machining and precision fabrication shops.

This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap holder or tapping chuck rated for the shank diameter of 0.3180 inches. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct diameter for M8x1.25 thread forming before beginning the operation. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material, even though the forming process is chipless. Inspect the tap for wear or deformation before each use, particularly when working in hardened steel.
