The OSG 1410104300 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. It produces M8x1.25 metric coarse threads with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, making it suitable for threading blind holes close to the bottom. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it delivers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS taps. The right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit with a D9 thread limit make it a reliable choice for precision threading applications across a broad range of materials.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer configuration allows threads to be formed as close to the bottom of a blind hole as possible, which is critical in assemblies with limited depth clearance. It is commonly used in production machining, tool and die, and fabrication environments where consistent thread quality and form integrity are required. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a cutting tap drill size for the same thread — consult OSG or a standard forming tap drill chart for the correct pre-drill diameter before use. Power down and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Thread forming in hardened steel at the upper end of the material range may require rigid tapping with synchronized spindle and feed to avoid tap breakage. Cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material is recommended to extend tool life and maintain thread quality.
