The OSG 1410104008 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or chip generation. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series, this M6x1.00 metric tap features a plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads, a D5 thread limit, and a 4H class of fit. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS taps. The overall length is 2.4803 inches (63.50 mm) with a thread length of 0.4724 inches (12.00 mm). It is suited for right-hand threading in through-hole applications across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in production and maintenance machining environments. It performs in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The thread forming method displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with a better surface finish in ductile workpiece materials. It is typically installed in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines by machinists and tool and die professionals working to metric thread standards.
Designed for through-hole threading in ductile materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Suitable for use with standard M6x1.00 metric thread specifications per ISO and DIN standards.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication and correct spindle speed for the workpiece material — consult the tap manufacturer speed and feed charts before use. Always ensure the workpiece is properly secured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole axis before engagement. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing or inspecting tooling. Thread forming requires a specific tap drill size larger than that used for cut tapping — confirm the correct forming drill diameter for M6x1.00 before drilling the pilot hole.
