The OSG 1410103900 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, the 1410103900 handles demanding applications including alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, carbon steel, die steel, and aluminum. It carries a 6H class of fit with a D8 thread limit, making it suitable for close-tolerance metric threads. The overall length is 2.4803 inches with a thread length of 0.4724 inches.
This tap is configured for M6x1.00 Metric Coarse threads with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is well suited for machine shops, production machining environments, and maintenance operations where high-strength formed threads are required in ductile materials. Right-hand thread direction is standard. The HY-PRO NRT series from OSG is engineered for chipless tapping in both manual and CNC tapping applications.
Designed for M6x1.00 Metric Coarse blind hole threading applications in ductile materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series (Series 14101).
Thread forming taps require ductile material and proper hole preparation with a recommended form tap drill size — do not use standard tap drill charts for cutting taps. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is driven with a tapping attachment or CNC rigid tapping cycle to maintain alignment. Lubrication or tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied even though coolant-through is not available on this tool. Power down and lock out any machine before changing tooling.
