The OSG 1410103708 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it produces M6x1.00 Metric Coarse internal threads using a chipless cold-forming process that displaces material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger thread forms and no chip evacuation concerns. The bottoming chamfer style — with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads — allows threading to the bottom of blind holes with minimal underrun. Overall length is 2.4803 inches (63.50 mm) and thread length is 0.4724 inches (12.00 mm). The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for elevated heat and wear resistance, and it carries a TiCN coating that further extends tool life in demanding applications. Licensed tradespeople and machinist-level technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is suited for production and repair threading operations in blind holes across alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, aluminum, and stainless steel workpieces. The right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit make it a standard selection for metric fastener applications in automotive, tooling, and general manufacturing environments. The D8 thread limit designation supports use in tighter-tolerance bore conditions. Tapping depth capacity is 1.0000 inch (25.40 mm), accommodating typical blind hole depths in the M6 range.

Thread forming taps require the correct pre-tap drill size for the specific material and class of fit — using a standard cut-tap drill diameter will result in incorrect thread form or tap breakage. A tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material should be used to reduce friction and extend tap life. Power down and secure the workpiece firmly before tapping operations. Follow shop-specific speed and feed recommendations for thread forming taps, which typically run at higher RPM than equivalent cut taps in the same material.
