The OSG 1410103700 is a thread forming tap designed for bottoming applications in M6x1.00 Metric Coarse threading. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Made from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it is built for demanding blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 2.4803 inches and a thread length of 0.4724 inches, it fits standard tap holders for M6 work. Class of fit is 6H with a D8 thread limit, making it suitable for close-tolerance production and repair work.
This tap is engineered for blind hole threading in materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes, which is essential in tight-clearance assemblies. It carries the HY-PRO NRT series designation from OSG, a line built for thread forming in both production machining and maintenance environments. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking will find this tap well suited to precision blind hole work.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Compatible with standard M6 tap holders and tapping chucks used in manual and CNC machining operations.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — use the recommended forming drill diameter for M6x1.00 rather than a standard cut tap drill size. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil before use. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the hole axis to prevent tap breakage or cross-threading. This tap is intended for use by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with thread forming operations.
