The OSG 1410103605 is a bottoming-style thread forming tap designed for M6x1.00 metric coarse threads. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction. With a thread length of 0.4724 inches (12.00 mm) and an overall length of 2.4803 inches (63.50 mm), it is sized for precision threading in a range of metal components. The 1-1.5P bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This tap is rated for blind hole threading applications across a broad range of metallic workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its D5 thread limit and 4H class of fit make it appropriate for standard metric fastener threads in precision machined parts. The HY-PRO NRT series is designed for cold-forming applications where chip-free threading and improved thread strength are priorities over conventional cutting-tap methods. It is well suited to CNC tapping centers and hand-tapping operations where consistent thread quality is required.
