The OSG 1410103205 is a thread forming tap designed for M5x0.80 Metric Coarse threading in blind hole applications. Made from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, this tap cold-forms threads rather than cutting them, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows the tap to reach close to the bottom of a blind hole while maintaining controlled thread formation. With a 4H class of fit and D4 thread limit, it delivers consistent dimensional accuracy across production runs. Machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators working in job shops and manufacturing environments are the primary users.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in a broad range of workpiece materials, including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Its cobalt construction gives it the heat resistance needed for harder ferrous materials. The HY-PRO NRT series from OSG is engineered for high-performance roll tapping where chip evacuation is not possible and thread strength is critical. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid-tapping setups.

Thread forming taps require a slightly larger pilot hole than cutting taps — always consult OSG or standard roll tap drill charts for the correct forming drill diameter before use. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tapping spindle or arm is properly aligned to avoid tap breakage, especially in blind holes. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; do not run dry. For CNC applications, confirm spindle speed and feed rate are set for thread forming rather than thread cutting to avoid overloading the tap.
