The OSG 1410102700 is a thread forming tap designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse threading in blind hole applications. Unlike cutting taps, this tool displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger threads with no chips to manage. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it is built to handle demanding materials including hardened steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard taper tap. It carries a Class of Fit 6H with a D6 thread limit, meeting standard metric tolerance requirements. This tap is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series and is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of metalworking applications. Suitable materials include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, covering material application codes P and N. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it well suited for production environments where thread depth close to the hole bottom is required. It is used in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair operations across automotive, aerospace, and general machining trades.
Designed for use in blind hole threading of alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series (Series 14101), compatible with standard M4x0.70 metric coarse tapping applications requiring a 6H Class of Fit.
This tap is installed by machinists and tooling technicians using standard tapping chucks or rigid tap holders on CNC or manual equipment. Ensure correct spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material before operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound to extend tool life, particularly in stainless steel and hardened steel. Inspect the pre-drilled hole diameter against the recommended tap drill size for M4x0.70 before tapping to avoid tool breakage.
