The OSG 1410102600 is a thread forming tap designed for M4x0.70 Metric Coarse internal threading in blind hole applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it uses a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap forms threads by displacing material rather than cutting chips, reducing the risk of chip packing in confined bores. The 4H class of fit with D4 thread limit delivers consistent dimensional accuracy in production and repair threading across a wide range of metals.
This tap is suited for use in blind hole threading operations in both production shop and maintenance environments. The cobalt construction supports use in harder and more abrasive workpiece materials where standard HSS taps wear prematurely. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a properly aligned tapping fixture or CNC tapping cycle to prevent tap breakage. Power down or lock out any machine tool before manually changing or inspecting the tap. Adequate cutting fluid or tapping compound should be applied at the workpiece to reduce friction and heat during the forming operation. Verify correct pilot hole diameter for the M4x0.70 thread form before tapping, as thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps.
