The OSG 1410102100 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile and malleable metals without cutting. It produces an M3.5x0.60 Metric Coarse thread profile using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it suited for blind hole applications where thread engagement must start close to the bottom of the bore. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, the tap measures 2 inches overall length and carries a D6 thread limit with a 6H class of fit. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this tap in CNC machining centers or manual tapping operations where cold-forming is preferred over cut tapping.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of metallic workpiece materials. Its material application range includes alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, making it a versatile option across general machining, mold and die work, and precision component manufacturing. The right-hand thread direction and standard shank dimensions suit most tap holders and extension collets used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for blind hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces per material application codes P and N.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication and correct spindle speed for the workpiece material to prevent tap breakage. Always verify that the pilot hole diameter is sized for forming rather than cutting, as undersized holes significantly increase torque and risk of tap failure. Secure the tap in a floating or tension-compression holder where possible to compensate for feed rate variation. Power down and lock out machinery before manually inspecting or removing the tap from the spindle.
