The OSG 1410102005 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in metallic workpieces without cutting or removing material. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it produces an M3.5x0.60 Metric Coarse thread with a right-hand direction and a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, making it well suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. The tap is constructed from cobalt high-speed steel for improved heat and wear resistance, and carries a TiN coating that reduces friction and extends tool life in demanding applications. Overall length is 2 inches with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading operations on a broad range of metallic materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading to progress nearer the bottom of a hole than a standard plug chamfer, which is advantageous in assemblies where thread engagement depth is limited. It is commonly used in precision machining, toolroom, and maintenance environments where metric fastener threads must be formed without chip generation.
Designed for use in blind hole threading applications on alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for machine tapping operations where an M3.5x0.60 Metric Coarse internal thread is required.
This tap should be installed in a machine spindle or tapping head by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate tap holder for the shank size. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the pilot hole diameter is correct for the intended thread forming operation before beginning. Shut down and de-energize all machine tool power before changing or setting the tap. Follow applicable OSHA machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures during tool changes.
