The OSG 1410101408 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Sized at M3x0.50 Metric Coarse with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it is built from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiCN coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. With an overall length of 1.9291 inches and a thread length of 0.2441 inches, this tap is suited for precision threading in tight-tolerance work. It is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals working on tapping operations in production or repair environments.
The OSG 1410101408 is intended for blind hole threading applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its thread forming action displaces material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger threads and no chip evacuation concerns. This makes it particularly well suited for CNC tapping centers, drill presses, and manual tapping operations where chip control in blind holes is a concern.
Designed for M3x0.50 Metric Coarse blind hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N indicate suitability for steel and non-ferrous materials respectively.
This tap is installed by machinists or toolroom technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or manual tap wrench. Ensure the spindle or holder is properly aligned before starting the thread to avoid tap breakage. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material before use. Verify the pre-drilled hole diameter meets the recommended forming tap drill size for M3x0.50 before tapping.
