The OSG 1410101101 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in metallic workpieces without cutting or chip generation. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, this tap produces M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse threads using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it well-suited for blind hole applications where thread engagement depth is critical. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, it delivers solid wear resistance and lubricity when tapping a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Overall length is 1.813 inches (46.00 mm) with a thread length of 0.512 inches (12.80 mm).
This tap is intended for use in blind hole threading operations across light manufacturing, precision machining, and maintenance and repair environments. Applicable materials include alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, aligning with ISO material application codes P and N. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, which is a common requirement in close-tolerance fixture and component work. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die professional would typically deploy this tap in a CNC machining center, drill press, or tapping arm setup.
Designed for forming M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse right-hand internal threads to a 6H class of fit in blind hole applications across alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill - consult published forming tap drill charts for M2.5x0.45 to ensure the correct minor diameter before tapping. A quality tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied before and during the forming operation. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the hole axis to prevent tap breakage, particularly in small-diameter applications like this one. Power down or de-energize any machine spindle before installing or removing the tap from the holder.
