The OSG 1410101100 is a thread forming tap designed for metric coarse internal threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than removing chips, producing strong, work-hardened threads with no swarf in the hole. This tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish and carries a D5 thread limit with a 6H class of fit. It is sized for M2.5x0.45 threads and features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. It belongs to the OSG HY-PRO NRT series and is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading applications in a broad range of materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming geometry allows threading close to the blind hole floor, which is critical in precision machining of deep but short-reach features. It is a common choice for CNC tapping centers and rigid tapping operations where chip evacuation is a concern, as the cold-forming action eliminates chip management entirely. The compact shank and short overall length make it appropriate for small-part and micro-component work.
Designed for M2.5x0.45 metric coarse blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N per ISO designation.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size that is larger than a standard cut tap pilot hole - always consult a thread forming drill chart for M2.5x0.45 before drilling. Power down spindle and secure workpiece before tap changes. Use a cutting or tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce forming torque and extend tap life. This tap is intended for use by trained machinists; correct spindle speed and feed rate must be observed to avoid tap breakage in small-diameter applications.
