The OSG 1410101000 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Operating on a M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse thread standard, this tap displaces material to create strong, work-hardened threads in ductile metals. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it carries a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, a Class of Fit of 4H, and a Thread Limit of D3. It is suited for blind hole threading applications in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC setup technicians are the primary users.
This tap is engineered for blind hole threading in a range of workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows the tap to reach close to the bottom of a blind hole while maintaining controlled thread form. The right-hand thread direction and 4H class of fit make it appropriate for standard metric fastener applications across production and maintenance machining environments. It performs well in both manual tapping and machine tapping setups where chip evacuation is a concern, since no chips are generated during the forming process.
Designed for blind hole thread forming applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces with M2.5x0.45 Metric Coarse thread requirements.
This tap should be installed in a tapping chuck or rigid tapping holder appropriate for the shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is aligned with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engaging the tap to prevent tap breakage at this small diameter. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material, even though this is a forming tap. Verify correct pilot hole diameter for thread forming before starting, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps for the same thread size.
