The OSG 1410100408 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it produces M2x0.40 metric coarse internal threads without cutting, displacing material instead of removing chips. This reduces the risk of chip packing in blind holes and results in stronger thread forms. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for elevated heat resistance and is finished with a TiCN coating that extends tool life in demanding applications. At 1.75 inches overall length with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it is suited for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Installation is performed by machinist toolmakers, CNC operators, and maintenance technicians.
This tap is used in production and maintenance machining environments where M2x0.40 metric coarse internal threads are required in blind holes. Suitable material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The 4H class of fit and D3 thread limit make it appropriate for standard metric fastener assemblies requiring controlled thread tolerance. Right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional tapping operations on manual or CNC equipment.
Designed for blind hole threading applications requiring M2x0.40 metric coarse internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder appropriate for the shank diameter of 0.141 inches and square size of 0.110 inches. Use a cutting or forming fluid rated for the workpiece material before tapping. Ensure the pre-drilled hole diameter meets the manufacturer recommendation for thread forming taps, which differs from cutting tap drill charts. On CNC equipment, program synchronous tapping cycles to match spindle speed with feed rate to avoid tap breakage.
