The OSG 1410100100 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting, reducing chip generation and producing stronger thread forms through material displacement. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish and targets M1.6x0.35 Metric Coarse thread profiles. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 1.6142 inches (41.30 mm) with a thread length of 0.3110 inches (7.90 mm). Machinists, tool and die makers, and precision fabrication shops use this tap in production and maintenance applications.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its cobalt composition provides improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel, making it a practical choice for harder alloys and interrupted cuts. The right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit with a D5 thread limit align with standard metric fastener specifications used in precision assemblies and close-tolerance machining work.
Designed for use in M1.6x0.35 Metric Coarse blind hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces, consistent with material application codes P and N.
This tap is installed by machinists or tool and die professionals using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC tapping cycle configured for right-hand thread direction. The workpiece must be secured and the spindle stopped before tap changes. Always apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil to the tap and hole before forming threads, particularly in steel and stainless applications. Verify that the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended forming tap drill size for M1.6x0.35 before proceeding.
