The OSG 1410100000 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile materials without cutting or producing chips. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it produces an M1.6x0.35 Metric Coarse thread profile using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap is suited for high-stress threading applications where tool life and thread strength are priorities. The 4H class of fit with a D3 thread limit ensures consistent thread tolerances across production runs. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with small-diameter precision threading operations will find this tap appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and manual tapping setups.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its primary application is blind hole threading where chip evacuation is a concern, as the cold-forming process eliminates chips entirely. The modified bottoming chamfer allows the tap to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it well suited for tight-clearance assemblies common in precision manufacturing, tooling, and instrument fabrication.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Material application codes P and N apply. Suitable for use wherever an M1.6x0.35 Metric Coarse 4H thread form is specified.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut tap drill - consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart for the material and thread class before drilling. A tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied to reduce forming torque and extend tool life. Secure the workpiece fully before tapping to prevent movement during the forming operation. Always back the tap out completely before reversing direction to avoid tool breakage in small-diameter applications.
