The OSG 1405006808 is a thread forming tap in the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting. Sized for 1/4-20 UNC thread with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it is built from powdered metal high-speed steel (PM-HSS) and coated with TiCN for extended tool life in demanding materials. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a thread length of 0.5945 inches, this tap is suited for blind hole applications where thread depth control is critical. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is designed for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance fastener applications in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking. The right-hand thread direction and H5 thread limit are consistent with standard UNC fastener specifications. Package quantity is 1.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for use with standard 1/4-20 UNC fastener applications requiring right-hand thread direction and H5 thread limit tolerances.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size, which differs from a standard cutting tap pilot hole - consult a forming tap drill chart for the correct hole diameter before tapping. Power down and secure the workpiece before beginning any tapping operation. Use an appropriate tapping lubricant or cutting fluid matched to the workpiece material to reduce friction and prevent tap breakage. This tap is intended for use by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with thread forming processes and machine shop safety practices.
