The OSG 1405003908 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metallic materials. Part of the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, it cuts a 6-32 UNC right-hand thread using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing the tap to reach near the bottom of a blind hole. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel (PM-HSS) for improved toughness and edge consistency. A TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating reduces friction and extends tool life across demanding applications. Overall length is 2 inches, and the H6 thread limit ensures dimensional accuracy within standard tolerance requirements. Licensed machinists and maintenance technicians working with threaded fastener applications in production or repair environments are the primary users of this tap.
The 1405003908 is suited for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. With a tapping depth of 0.685 inches and a thread length of 0.3701 inches, it handles typical 6-32 UNC fastener applications in sheet metal, enclosures, fixtures, and machined components. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it especially practical when thread engagement must start close to the base of a blind hole where a standard or plug chamfer cannot reach.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Material application codes P, M, and N confirm suitability across ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece categories. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VP-NRT series (Series 14050).
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tapping procedures for the target material. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the spindle or tap wrench is properly aligned before engaging the tap to prevent thread distortion or tool breakage. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound to the tap before use; do not run this tool dry on ferrous materials. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine tool operating procedures when using power tapping equipment.
