The OSG 1405003308 is a thread forming tap in the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Sized for 6-32 UNC applications, it features a bottoming chamfer with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, making it well-suited for blind hole threading where full thread engagement close to the bottom of the hole is required. Manufactured from powdered metal high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and lubricity across a wide range of workpiece materials. The overall length is 2 inches with a thread limit of H4 and right-hand thread direction. Licensed machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is designed for blind hole thread forming operations in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The EXOTAP VP-NRT series is built around cold-forming technology, which displaces material rather than cutting it, resulting in stronger thread forms and elimination of chip-related tap breakage. It is used in production machining, maintenance repair, and fabrication environments where a reliable, chip-free tapping process is needed in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Suitable for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P, M, and N apply per ISO classification.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size that is larger than a standard cut-tap drill - consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart for 6-32 UNC before drilling. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Secure the workpiece and use a properly aligned tap handle, tapping head, or CNC tapping cycle to maintain concentricity. Do not use this tap in through-hole applications expecting chip evacuation; it is optimized for blind hole forming.
