The OSG 1405003208 is a thread forming tap in the EXOTAP VP-NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads in blind holes without cutting or producing chips. Sized for 6-32 UNC threads with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it generates threads by displacing material rather than removing it, resulting in stronger thread forms and longer tool life. Constructed from powdered metal high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap handles demanding materials including alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and die steel. It carries a right-hand thread direction, Class 3B fit, and H3 thread limit.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance applications requiring precise 6-32 UNC internal threads in blind holes. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a hole, making it appropriate for tight-clearance assemblies. Its material compatibility spans a broad range of metals commonly found in aerospace, automotive, tooling, and general industrial applications. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working in job shops or manufacturing environments will find it a direct fit for CNC tapping cycles and manual tapping operations alike.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in 6-32 UNC applications across alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Part of the OSG EXOTAP VP-NRT series.
Thread forming taps require a larger pilot hole diameter than cutting taps — consult OSG EXOTAP VP-NRT forming tap drill charts for the correct forming drill size before use. Power down or deactivate any CNC spindle and secure the workpiece before tap changes. Use a tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. This tap is intended for use by machinists and maintenance professionals familiar with tapping parameters and machine setup.
