The OSG 1400135600 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap delivers strength and heat resistance when working through tough materials. The H10 thread limit ensures accurate thread production on 3/8-16 UNC right-hand threads. It is suited to applications where chip evacuation is a concern or where thread strength must be maximized through material displacement rather than removal.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It is commonly used in production machining, maintenance, and repair environments where consistent thread quality is required in ductile workpiece materials. The modified bottoming geometry makes it especially useful when full thread depth near the bottom of a blind hole is required with minimal runout space.
Designed for blind hole threading in ductile materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, as indicated by material application codes P and N.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tapping fixture. Before use, confirm the correct tap drill size for the thread form application, as thread forming taps require a slightly larger pilot hole than cutting taps for the same thread size. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping to prevent movement and thread misalignment.
