The OSG 1400134700 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Sized at 3/8-16 UNC with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, it is suited for threading blind holes where maximum thread depth is required. Constructed from cobalt with a bright finish, the tap carries a Thread Limit of H7 and handles right-hand thread direction. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and maintenance environments requiring precise, chip-free threading.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its application is blind hole threading, making it a practical choice for close-tolerance work in both job shop and production floor settings. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole, maximizing usable thread length in components where through-hole design is not an option.

Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than a standard cut-tap drill size — consult the OSG HY-PRO NRT drill chart for the correct pilot hole diameter before use. Power down and secure the workpiece before beginning any tapping operation. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or paste lubricant to the tap and workpiece to reduce friction and extend tool life. Use a tapping attachment or CNC rigid tapping cycle to maintain axial alignment and avoid tap breakage.
