The OSG 1400134608 is a bottoming-chamfer thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed to cold-form 3/8-16 UNC internal threads without cutting. Made from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it handles the torsional and thermal demands of threading alloy steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, carbon steel, die steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer (1 to 1.5 chamfered threads) allows threading to near the bottom of blind holes. Thread limit is H6, which keeps the formed thread within a tight tolerance class suited to precision fastener applications. Installation is performed by licensed machinists or tool-and-die professionals using a tapping head or CNC machine.
This tap is built for blind hole threading in production and maintenance machining environments. The HY-PRO NRT series is engineered for ductile and semi-ductile metals where material displacement rather than chip generation is preferred, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind bores. Typical applications include threading holes in structural components, tooling plates, fixture bodies, and machined housings across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous base materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel (material application codes P and N).
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces (material application codes P and N). Produces 3/8-16 UNC right-hand internal threads.
Thread forming taps should be installed and operated by qualified machinists following established tapping procedures. Ensure the correct pilot hole diameter for thread forming (larger than a cutting tap pilot hole) is used before tapping. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material, and verify spindle speed and feed rate are set per the tap manufacturer guidelines for the material being threaded. Never reverse a thread forming tap under power without confirming the machine is set for proper back-out feed.
