The OSG 1400122100 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-form tapping in blind holes without producing chips. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish and an H3 thread limit, this tap produces strong, work-hardened threads by displacing material rather than cutting it. The 12-24 UNC configuration with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a tapping depth of 0.933 inches. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians use this tap in CNC and manual tapping applications across a range of metals.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly useful in production environments where thread depth close to the floor of a blind hole is required. Right-hand thread direction is standard. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous materials. The HY-PRO NRT series is a recognized OSG product line for thread forming in demanding industrial and toolroom settings.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Suitable for any application requiring a 12-24 UNC right-hand thread in materials matching application codes P and N.
Thread forming taps require correct pilot hole sizing specific to the thread form and material being tapped — consult OSG or published forming tap drill charts before drilling. Always use a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material, as thread forming generates higher torque than cutting taps. Secure the workpiece and ensure proper tap alignment before engaging to prevent tap breakage. Power down or de-energize any CNC spindle before manually inspecting or changing the tap.
