The OSG 1400122000 is a thread forming tap designed for creating internal threads without cutting or removing material, instead displacing metal to form the thread profile. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, this tap is configured in a 12-24 UNC right-hand thread with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads, making it well suited for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it carries a thread limit of H2 and delivers consistent thread geometry in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a shank diameter of 0.220 inches.
This tap is used for blind hole threading applications across general machining, toolroom, and production environments. Its material application range covers alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, making it versatile for job shops and production floors handling mixed material workloads. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading to near-full depth in shallow blind holes where a standard taper or plug chamfer would leave insufficient thread engagement. It is typically installed in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, or manual tapping setups.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 12-24 UNC internal thread.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist in a rigid tapping setup or tapping head capable of maintaining axial alignment with the pre-drilled pilot hole. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material before beginning the tapping cycle. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are secure before engaging the tap, and do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the tap size to avoid breakage or thread distortion. Always de-energize and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the tap.
