The OSG 1400121405 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile materials without cutting or producing chips. Sized for 10-32 UNF right-hand threads, it features a plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads for gradual thread engagement. The tap is manufactured from cobalt steel and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction during forming. With an H5 thread limit and a Class 2B fit, it produces threads held to tight tolerances suited for precision fastener applications. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators use this tap in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Rated material applications include alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The chipless forming action makes it especially effective in blind-hole setups where chip evacuation is a concern, and in CNC tapping centers where consistent thread geometry is required across high-volume runs. It is a strong fit for aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing work where 10-32 UNF fastener holes must meet close-tolerance specs.
Designed for through-hole threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces. Compatible with standard 10-32 UNF tap holders and CNC tapping heads accepting a 0.194-inch shank diameter with a 0.152-inch square drive.
Thread forming taps require higher torque than cutting taps and must be used with a tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is started perpendicular to the hole to prevent thread lean and tap breakage. Always confirm spindle speed and feed rate are matched to material hardness and tap diameter per the manufacturer recommendations for forming taps. Inspect the tap for wear or coating damage before each production run to maintain thread quality.
