The OSG 1400121100 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this plug-style tap carries a 10-32 UNF thread form with an H2 thread limit and 32 threads per inch. It is suited for through-hole threading applications in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The overall length is 2.375 inches with a shank diameter of 0.194 inches, making it compatible with standard tap holders and CNC tapping heads used in production and maintenance machining environments.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations on materials including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. It is well-suited for job shops, production machining, and maintenance repair environments where chip-free thread forming is required. The plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads provides good entry guidance and works in both manual and machine tapping setups where access to the workpiece is not restricted.
Designed for through-hole threading of 10-32 UNF threads in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability for steel and non-ferrous material groups per ISO application classification.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication to control torque and surface finish during the cold-forming process; use a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the hole axis before tapping to avoid thread distortion or tool breakage. Machine tapping should be performed at speeds appropriate for the workpiece material and tap diameter, following the tool manufacturer guidelines for thread forming tools. Secure the workpiece and confirm spindle direction before initiating the tapping cycle.
