The OSG 1400121001 is a thread forming tap designed for producing internal 10-32 UNF threads without cutting chips. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating, this tap is built for durability in demanding tapping applications. The modified bottoming chamfer - 2 to 2.5 threads - allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 0.492-inch thread length, this tap fits standard machine tapping setups. It is suited for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die tradespeople working with tight-tolerance fastener threads in production or repair environments.
This tap is rated for blind hole threading in a range of materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The H10 thread limit designation indicates a tighter tolerance class, making it appropriate for applications where thread fit and dimensional consistency are critical. The HY-PRO NRT series is designed for thread forming - cold forming rather than cutting - which produces stronger threads with no chip evacuation concern in blind bores. Right-hand thread direction is standard. Tapping depth reaches 0.866 inches, providing solid engagement depth for most blind hole applications in this thread size.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability across ferrous and non-ferrous materials where thread forming is applicable.
This tap should be installed in a machine spindle or tapping head configured for right-hand thread direction. Secure the tap in a proper tap holder with the correct square drive engagement before beginning the tapping cycle. Verify that the spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and thread size before running. No coolant-through capability is present, so external lubrication or cutting fluid application is recommended to maximize tool life, particularly in stainless steel and hardened steel.
