The OSG 1400120108 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It cuts a 10-32 UNF right-hand thread using a cold-forming process that displaces material rather than cutting chips, resulting in stronger threads and reduced risk of chip packing in blind holes. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap handles elevated heat and abrasion better than standard HSS taps. The bottoming chamfer with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Licensed machinists, toolroom techs, and maintenance mechanics use this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-tapping fixtures.
This tap is suited for production and maintenance threading in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Its H5 thread limit and Class 2B fit specification make it appropriate for standard tolerance fastener applications across industrial, automotive, and general manufacturing environments. The HY-PRO NRT series designation indicates it is engineered specifically for thread forming rather than thread cutting, making it the correct choice wherever chip-free blind hole tapping is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement tap for 10-32 UNF blind hole threading applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces where a thread forming process is specified.
Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size larger than that used for cut taps — consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct 10-32 UNF forming drill diameter before drilling. Apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material, especially when tapping stainless steel or hardened steel. Use a torque-controlled tapping head or a calibrated tap wrench to avoid overloading the tap shank. Coolant-through is not available on this tap, so adequate surface lubrication is critical for tool life.
