The OSG 1400120105 is a thread forming tap designed for 10-32 UNF blind hole threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Unlike cutting taps, this forming tap displaces material rather than cutting it, producing stronger, burr-free threads. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN (Titanium Nitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production and maintenance applications. The bottoming chamfer style — with 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads — allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes where full thread engagement is required. This tap is part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series and carries a Class 2B fit with an H5 thread limit.
This tap is suited for threading operations in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. It is appropriate for both production machining environments and toolroom applications where a right-hand, 10-32 UNF thread must be formed in a blind hole. The bottoming geometry makes it particularly useful in assemblies where fasteners seat near the floor of a drilled or milled pocket. Machinists and toolmakers working with tapping machines, CNC machining centers, or hand tappers will find this tap well-suited to close-tolerance work demanding a 2B fit.
Designed for blind hole thread forming applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 10-32 UNF, Class 2B thread form.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size — do not use a standard cut-tap drill chart, as the recommended hole diameter differs. Secure the workpiece and use a tapping fluid appropriate for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel or hardened alloys. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the hole axis before applying torque to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion. On CNC equipment, verify that the spindle feed rate matches the programmed pitch of 32 threads per inch.
