The OSG 1400119908 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for 10-32 UNF blind hole threading applications. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This bottoming-style tap features a cobalt steel construction with a TiCN coating, making it well-suited for demanding materials that require edge hardness and heat resistance. With a 1 to 1.5 thread chamfer, it can thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. The overall length is 2.375 inches with a tapping depth of 0.866 inches, and it is rated to a Class 3B fit at thread limit H3. Installed by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance mechanics in production and MRO environments.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer and TiCN coating make it particularly effective in tighter tolerance work where chip evacuation is a concern and thread strength is critical. It is suited to CNC tapping, manual tapping machines, and hand tapping setups where a right-hand 10-32 UNF internal thread is required in a blind hole. The HY-PRO NRT series is optimized for thread forming in a range of metallic workpiece materials commonly encountered in fabrication, tooling, and general machining operations.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for any tapping setup that accepts a 0.194-inch shank diameter tap for 10-32 UNF right-hand thread forming.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming hole diameter that is larger than a standard tap drill size — consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart before drilling. Always apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap enters the hole square to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. This tap is intended for use by trained machinists or mechanics familiar with tapping speeds and feeds appropriate to the material and tap size.
