The OSG 1400117905 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-form threading in blind hole applications. It carries a 10-24 UNC thread profile with a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, allowing it to tap close to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN coating to extend tool life under demanding cutting conditions. At 2.375 inches overall length with a shank diameter of 0.194 inches, it is sized for standard tap holders and machine tapping setups. Machinists, tool and die makers, and production shop technicians are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in a wide range of metallic workpieces. The HY-PRO NRT series is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer makes it appropriate as a finishing tap after a plug or spiral point tap has started the thread. It is commonly used in production machining, maintenance and repair operations, and toolroom work where a 10-24 UNC internal thread with a Class 3B fit and H4 thread limit is specified.
Designed for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum workpieces requiring a 10-24 UNC Class 3B internal thread. Material application codes P and N apply per the OSG HY-PRO NRT series designation.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder sized for a 0.194-inch shank diameter and driven with the appropriate square drive for the 0.152-inch square size. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before tapping to avoid tap breakage in blind holes. Use a compatible cutting fluid or tapping fluid suitable for the workpiece material; do not run dry. Always power down or de-energize the machine before changing tooling.
