The OSG 1400117900 is a cobalt thread forming tap designed for bottoming applications in blind holes. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it cuts 10-24 UNC right-hand threads to a class 3B fit with an H4 thread limit. At 2.375 inches overall length, the tap features a bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads, allowing threads to be formed close to the bottom of a blind hole. The bright finish cobalt construction provides heat resistance and durability across a wide range of workpiece materials. This tap is suited for machine shop, maintenance, and production threading operations performed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer makes it the correct choice when full threads must extend close to the base of a blind hole. It is used in production machining, MRO operations, and precision fabrication environments where 10-24 UNC fastener holes are required. The thread forming design displaces rather than cuts material, which reduces chip formation and is particularly effective in ductile metals such as aluminum and mild steel.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring 10-24 UNC class 3B threads. Material application codes P and N apply.
This tap is installed by machinists using a standard tap wrench or machine tapping chuck in a drill press, CNC machining center, or manual mill. The pilot hole diameter must be correctly sized per UNC thread forming tap recommendations before use. Cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied during operation. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned to avoid tap breakage.
