The OSG 1400117801 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for bottoming applications in blind holes. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps cold-form the thread profile by displacing material rather than cutting it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear from the hole. This tap is built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a steam oxide coating for improved lubricity and corrosion resistance. It carries an H3 thread limit and is sized for 10-24 UNC threads. With an overall length of 2.375 inches and a tapping depth of 0.866 inches, it suits machine shops, maintenance technicians, and production line operators working with short blind holes requiring full-depth threads.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer features 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads, allowing the tap to cut usable threads very close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is well suited for CNC tapping centers, drill presses, and hand-tapping operations where chip evacuation is a concern and full thread engagement near the blind hole floor is required. Right-hand thread direction, 24 threads per inch, and H3 tolerance class make this a standard fit for precision fastening applications across general metalworking and manufacturing environments.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Material application codes P and N apply. Suitable for use with standard 10-24 UNC fastener systems requiring right-hand threads.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which is larger than the equivalent cutting tap drill size — consult the material-specific forming tap drill chart before drilling. Power down and lock out any machine before changing or inspecting tooling. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. This tap is intended for use by machinists and maintenance professionals familiar with tap alignment, speed selection, and blind hole depth control.
