The OSG 1400115305 is a thread forming tap in the HY-PRO NRT series, designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. It uses plastic deformation to create strong, work-hardened threads in ductile materials. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction. Built to an 8-32 UNC thread standard with a plug chamfer, it carries a Thread Limit of H4 and is configured for right-hand, through-hole threading applications. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in precision fabrication and maintenance environments rely on this style of tap where thread integrity and surface finish are critical.
This tap suits through-hole threading operations in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The plug chamfer with 4 to 4.5 chamfered threads makes it appropriate for starting in a pre-drilled through hole. At 2.125 inches overall length and a tapping depth of 0.752 inches, it fits standard drill press, CNC, and hand-tapping setups encountered in HVAC equipment fabrication, mechanical assembly, and facilities maintenance work.
Designed for through-hole thread forming in ductile metals including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Material application codes P and N confirm suitability across ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials commonly encountered in precision machining and mechanical assembly.
Thread forming taps require a specifically sized forming tap drill — consult OSG or standard forming tap drill charts for the correct pre-drill diameter for 8-32 UNC before starting. Adequate lubrication or cutting fluid is essential when tapping steel and stainless steel to prevent galling and premature tool wear. Power down and secure any machine spindle before changing or inspecting the tap. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine-guarding requirements during all tapping operations.
