The OSG 1400114600 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in ductile materials without cutting. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series, this tap is configured in 8-32 UNC with a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it well-suited for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish and an H6 thread limit, it delivers consistent dimensional accuracy. Overall length is 2.125 inches, with a tapping depth of 0.752 inches and a thread length of 0.374 inches. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in CNC machines, drill presses, or by hand tap driver.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading applications across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, it covers a broad scope of production and maintenance machining work. The right-hand thread direction and 32 threads per inch (TPI) configuration align with standard 8-32 UNC fastener specifications common in light mechanical assemblies, electronics hardware, and precision instrument fabrication.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in ductile workpiece materials rated under material application codes P and N, including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Belongs to OSG Series 14001 HY-PRO NRT product line.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication with a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil matched to the workpiece material — use of the correct lubricant is especially important in stainless steel and hardened steel. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before engagement to avoid tap breakage. Power down spindle and secure the workpiece before changing or inspecting taps. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable OSHA machining standards when operating drilling or tapping equipment.
