The OSG 1400114505 is a thread forming tap designed for 8-32 UNC applications in blind hole threading operations. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it uses a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap is constructed from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for added wear resistance and lubricity. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a thread length of 0.374 inches and a shank diameter of 0.168 inches. Right-hand thread direction and an H5 thread limit provide a Class 2B fit. Installation requires no coolant-through capability.
This tap is intended for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly effective in shallow blind holes where a standard or plug chamfer tap would leave insufficient thread engagement near the bottom of the hole. It is commonly used in machine shop, maintenance, and production environments where precise internal thread forming is required without chip generation.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Suitable for applications requiring 8-32 UNC internal threads with a Class 2B fit.
Thread forming taps should be installed and operated by machinists or tool and die professionals familiar with tapping procedures and machine tool operation. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed is appropriate for the material being tapped before beginning the operation. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting compound for the workpiece material to protect the tap and maintain thread quality. Always follow applicable shop safety practices and equipment manufacturer guidelines when operating tapping machines or CNC equipment.
