The OSG 1400114405 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it cuts an 8-32 UNC internal thread using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, making it suited for applications where thread engagement must reach close to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life under demanding cutting conditions. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a shank diameter of 0.168 inches. Thread limit is H4. Installation is right-hand direction only.
This tap is intended for use in production and maintenance machining environments where blind hole internal threads are required. It is well suited to job shop, toolroom, and production floor applications involving alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, aluminum, and stainless steel workpieces. The modified bottoming chamfer gives machinists the ability to form threads with minimal clearance at the bottom of the hole, reducing the need for a separate bottoming pass in many setups.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces. Material application codes P and N apply per the OSG HY-PRO NRT series classification.
Thread forming taps of this type are typically installed and operated by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the pilot hole diameter is correct for 8-32 UNC thread forming before beginning the tapping operation. Power down and de-energize any machine tool before mounting or removing taps. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce tool wear and improve thread quality.
