The OSG 1400110805 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads in blind hole applications. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it cuts a 6-32 UNC right-hand thread using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads, allowing the tap to start close to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap body is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating that extends tool life in abrasive and harder work materials. With an H7 thread limit and 32 threads per inch, this tap suits precision threading requirements across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Overall length is 2 inches, and the shank diameter measures 0.141 inches.
This tap is suited for use in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments where blind hole threading in small-diameter fastener sizes is required. It performs in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The modified bottoming style makes it particularly useful where thread engagement must begin near the base of a drilled hole. It is typically run in CNC machining centers, knee mills, or tapping heads using appropriate cutting fluid.
Designed for blind hole thread forming in 6-32 UNC applications across alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel work materials (material application codes P and N).
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill — the recommended hole diameter differs from a standard cut tap drill chart, so consult a thread forming drill size reference before drilling. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the work material before tapping. Always secure the workpiece and use a tapping arm or machine feed to maintain axial alignment. Reverse the tap slightly before full retraction to relieve spring-back torque on the formed threads.
