The OSG 1400110605 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without cutting or producing chips. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, it is engineered for use in blind hole threading applications where tool longevity and thread quality are critical. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows the tap to work close to the bottom of a blind hole. At 2 inches overall length with a right-hand thread direction and a 6-32 UNC thread form, this tap is a standard choice for machinists and maintenance technicians working in precision thread forming operations.
This tap is suited for threading blind holes in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It is appropriate for production and maintenance work in manufacturing, tool and die, and general metalworking environments. The TiN coating reduces friction and extends tool life when running in alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and aluminum. The H5 thread limit and Class 2B fit make it compatible with standard tolerance threading requirements across these material groups.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Material application codes P and N apply. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT series (Series 14001).
Thread forming taps should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping procedures and machine tool setup. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before tapping. Power down or de-energize the machine before changing or inspecting taps. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting compound for the specific material being threaded to maintain coating integrity and thread quality.
