The OSG 1400110308 is a thread forming tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Part of the HY-PRO NRT series, it cuts a 6-32 UNC right-hand thread with a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing the tap to work close to the bottom of a blind hole. Constructed from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, the tap delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread limit of H2, making it suitable for close-tolerance tapping applications. Installation requires a properly sized pilot hole appropriate for thread forming rather than thread cutting.
This tap is intended for use in machining, fabrication, and maintenance environments where blind hole threading is required. Its material application range covers alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel, making it a practical choice for general machine shops, toolrooms, and industrial maintenance operations. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 2.5 chamfered threads allows threading closer to blind hole bottoms than a standard plug or taper tap.
Designed for blind hole thread forming applications in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 6-32 UNC right-hand thread.
Thread forming taps are installed by machinists and toolroom technicians using a tapping machine, CNC machining center, or hand tap wrench. Because thread forming displaces rather than cuts material, the pilot hole diameter must be sized specifically for thread forming — consult the tap manufacturer drill chart for the correct forming hole size, as it differs from a standard cut-tap drill size. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound is applied for the workpiece material. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine is programmed for synchronized tapping.
