The OSG 1400110200 is a bottoming thread forming tap designed for creating 6-32 UNC internal threads without cutting chips. Made from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap displaces material rather than removing it, producing stronger threads with a work-hardened surface. It is built for blind hole applications where full thread depth close to the bottom of the bore is required. The overall length is 2 inches with a thread limit of H5 and a Class 2B fit, making it suitable for precision threaded assemblies in production and maintenance environments. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The bottoming chamfer of 1 to 1.5 threads allows threading to within a minimal distance of the hole bottom, making it the correct choice when thread length must be maximized in shallow or short blind holes. It fits standard tap holders and is used on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping fixtures across light manufacturing, job shops, and maintenance repair operations.
Designed for use in blind hole threading of alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 6-32 UNC Class 2B internal thread. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT Series 14001.
Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size larger than that used for cut taps — consult a thread forming drill chart for the correct pilot hole diameter before use, as an undersized hole will overload and break the tap. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and that the tapping spindle is properly aligned to avoid tap breakage. Apply an appropriate tapping compound or cutting fluid compatible with the workpiece material. Always relieve torque and back the tap out carefully when approaching the bottom of a blind hole.
