The OSG 1400103200 is a thread forming tap designed for creating 2-64 UNF internal threads without cutting — material is displaced rather than removed, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap is engineered for use in blind hole applications where a modified bottoming chamfer of 2 to 2.5 threads allows threading close to the bottom of the hole. The H3 thread limit and Class 2B fit classification make it suitable for standard unified fine thread tolerance requirements. Overall length is 1.75 inches with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision manufacturing technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations across a wide range of materials, including alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel. Its modified bottoming chamfer makes it the right choice when thread engagement must start as close to the hole bottom as possible. The HY-PRO NRT series from OSG is designed for chipless thread forming, making it particularly effective in automated CNC tapping operations and precision assembly environments where chip contamination is a concern.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, die steel, hardened steel, and stainless steel workpieces requiring a 2-64 UNF Class 2B internal thread. Part of the OSG HY-PRO NRT Series 14001.
Thread forming taps require a specific forming tap drill size — do not use a standard cut tap drill chart, as forming taps require a larger pilot hole than cutting taps of the same thread designation. Power down and secure all workpieces before tool changes on CNC or manual tapping equipment. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain thread quality. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque and speed guidelines for the workpiece material and tap size.
