Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than remove it, resulting in stronger threads and no chip evacuation concerns. The 1400102405 is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel for elevated heat and wear resistance, and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to further extend tool life. The bottoming chamfer — 1 to 1.5 chamfered threads — allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole.
